The revitalization of downtown LA has prompted a transformation of the newly updated LA Athletic Club. After two phases of $10 million renovations, which included its meeting and event spaces, the family-owned athletic and social club now offers guests and planners exciting new spaces for any occasion.
The new look and feel of each space was curated by interior designer Tracy Beckmann. "The design style is what we call updated historic. It features a blend of modern and traditional." describes Cory Hathaway, assistant general manager of the LA Athletic Club.
Completed June 1, 2017, Phase 1 of the renovation plan saw the redesign of the Victory Ballroom, Strategy Room, 1984 and The Founders Room. These meeting and event spaces can hold groups anywhere from eight to 120 people.
Phase 2 renovations, completed on May 15, moved the renovation to the women's locker room, the beach-themed Kahuna Room, Music Room and Gallery Room. "These rooms are more programmatic. For example, the Kahuna Room hosts WAVE, an intersectional community dedicated to the professional and personal development of women. The Gallery Room is a cross between a screening room and a VIP lounge, and the Music Room will house the club's collection of music," explains Hathaway. New features include new pieces of art to adorn the oak paneled walls, as well as chandeliers and gold leaf lettering on the doors.
The Kahuna Room, the LAAC's newest addition, provides a tropical oasis for guests. Designed as an homage to Duke Kahanamoku, an Olympic gold medal winner and loyal LAAC member, the room is flooded with natural light, furnished with French-style banquettes, copper accents and palm frond wallpaper. The Kahuna Room is the perfect fit for more intimate events with a capacity of 25 guests.
The LA Athletic Club's property also features 72 deluxe rooms and nine one-bedroom suites. Upon arrival, all hotel guests receive an Olive Club Membership, which grants admittance into the Famous Players Restaurant, Invention Bar, and 88,000 square feet of athletic space, including a basketball court and pool.
Whether it is for a wedding reception or work retreat, the LA Athletic Club has a space for every occasion, each with their own distinct ambience. Groups ranging from 5 up to 500 are welcome.
"The Los Angeles Athletic Club is rich in LA History, with each room offering a different story! We strive to make each event memorable, no matter how large or small."
