After a 21-month, $43 million expansion and renovation, the Riverside Convention Center showcased its transformation with a gala preview for more than 1,000 guests at the end of February and a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 1. The convention center is almost entirely new, with an expanded main exhibit hall and 20 meeting rooms accommodating groups from 20 to 3,000. The center now has 65,000 square feet of usable indoor space, upper and lower concourses and an events plaza with nearly 15,000 square feet of outdoor space.

The smiling faces say it all: it’s great to be together again! In late June, the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority welcomed 18 executive meeting planners from across the country to the destination, marking the first assembly of a new customer advisory board (CAB) focused on meetings, conventions and trade shows.

The annual education luncheon and trade show of the Sacramento Sierra Nevada chapter of Meeting Professionals International brought out many fancy hats and the smaller accessories known as “fascinators,” a nod to the “Derby Days” theme. Held in the Clubhouse at the Cal Expo racetrack, the event’s bar served up mint juleps, another merry bow to the theme.
