The Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) has partnered with Portraits of Hope (POH) to create a mural designed by local youth POH participants. POH is a nonprofit founded with the purpose of providing creative therapy for hospitalized children. With geometric shapes as the core design element of the project, the mural, "Shaping LA" is representative of the future of the city as told by the work of tomorrow's leaders.

Thirteen years ago, POH came to LACC with the idea of using the building as a large-scale canvas, and in 2018, they presented the Shaping LA concept to the Los Angeles Department of Convention and Tourism Development.

"The LACC was the perfect space for a project of this size and scope. POH is a great partner for the LACC because their work celebrates community and creativity," says Michelle Riehle-Ludtke, marketing & community relations specialist for LACC. "It uniquely brings together individuals and groups from all over Los Angeles as participants and showcases their work in one of the most highly trafficked areas in Los Angeles."

The mural was installed in March and will be up for approximately six months, and though a replacement has not yet been determined, it will have some large shoes to fill.

"[Shaping LA] represents the unified Los Angeles community and also the creativity of our great city," Riehle-Ludtke says. "The reactions have been incredibly positive. We've received many comments about the bright shapes and colors and how it draws your attention to a place your eye hasn't been drawn to before."

Sonesta Silicon Valley has been making some big changes. From significant updates to their communal spaces and guest rooms to a new restaurant opening in late November, the hotel has much to be excited about. So much so that this December, to celebrate the launch of the new Sonesta Event Center, the hotel will be offering a complimentary meeting package for up to 50 people. 

 

Visit Newport Beach released its new marketing campaign highlighting the destination management organization’s dedication to the small meetings market. Debuted at the 2019 IMEX America show, the concept focuses specifically on the planner and the VIP treatment that they can expect from Visit Newport Beach and the city’s hospitality community.

 

This September, Los Angeles Airport Marriott is beginning the final stage of their $50-million renovations.  

The redesign includes more than 50,000 square feet of meeting space alongside a maximum capacity of 2,500 people. The hotel will be set to host parties of any nature, including Corporate events, conventions, company retreats, holiday parties, banquets, exhibitions, workshops, and everything in between.
