1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role as catering manager for The Hotel Landing?

A Tasty Break: The Sea Salt Workshop at Terranea Resort

I’ve been spending a lot of time experimenting with sea salt lately. Grilling fish with Meyer-lemon infused salt, adding a pinch of rosemary salt to pinto beans, making a vinaigrette with a smoked sea salt, sprinkling fruit or popcorn with dashes of this or that. A few weeks ago I took the Sea Salt Workshop at the Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes. Held the first Saturday of every month, at a cost of $70 per person, the workshops are led by the resort’s chefs.

Woodside Hotels to Manage Two New Properties

California-based Woodside Hotels will take over the management of Dream Inn Santa Cruz and Indian Springs Calistoga. As California’s leading operator of independent upscale hotels, restaurants and spas, Woodside will grow the management portfolio of premier Northern California properties with these new additions.

Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa Named No. 1 Best Hotel in California

The U.S. News & World Report has named Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa the No. 1 Best Hotel in California. They were also listed as one of the top ten hotels in the U.S.

"The award-winning hotels on the U.S. News Best Hotels rankings meet the standards of both everyday travelers and industry experts in offering exceptional customer service and luxury amenities," says Erin Shields, travel editor at U.S. News.

The rankings rely on luxury hotel and resort industry awards as well as expert and guest reviews to determine the list.

LACC Breaks Record for Waste Diversion

The Los Angeles Convention Center has partnered with the U.S. Green Building Council and Informa Exhibitions for a record-shattering 90.3 percent waste diversion rate at the 2016 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo.

“Los Angeles is leading the way in sustainability,” says Kate Hurst, vice president of community advancement, conference and events. “It was ranked as the fourth major city in the United States for LEED-certified projects in 2016 and is part of the 100 million square feet club, which made it an ideal location to host the 15th annual Greenbuild.”

Social media has drastically changed since I was in college. Thanks to Instagram, Twitter and FB, the hashtag symbol is becoming a larger topic when it comes to following, reporting and engaging with companies, friends or events. I personally love following the buzz during events that I cannot attend via hashtags. Savvy event planners can use hashtags to help our industry and business grow.

Splacer Debuts In Los Angeles

Splacer, an online marketplace for event spaces, has expanded to the Los Angeles market. At its debut, the market had 140 listings available to book for meetings and events, including villas, lofts, museums, theaters and more.
