Event Snapshots: MPISCC Pledges to Evolve

On June 23, the Meeting Professionals International Southern California Chapter (MPISCC) gathered at the Concourse Hotel LAX (soon to be Hyatt Regency LAX) to install its 2016-2017 board. After a lively reception at the newly opened event lawn, an awards dinner was held in the ballroom. The chapter’s theme for the upcoming year is “evolve.” As incoming president Nicole Newman puts it, “Nothing in our industry looks the same today as it did five or 10 years ago. We’re an industry looking toward the future: innovating, adapting, exploring and connecting.”

Signature Drink: Mint Apple Swizzle

Hard cider, a centuries-old beverage, is gaining new fans among the craft beer and wine set and beyond, with sales quintupling over the last three years. Some of the very best hard cider is being produced in Healdsburg by the fatherand- son team of David and Robert Cordtz. The two founded Sonoma Cider in 2013 and their ever-expanding line of certified organic ciders has been winning accolades and awards ever since, including being named the 2015 Cider Producer of the Year at the New York International Beer Competition.

Signature Drink - Bird of Paradise

Redbird, located in a downtown LA space that used to be the rectory of a former cathedral (which also houses the stunning event venue Vibiana), offers a cocktail program inspired by vintage cocktail books. The Bird of Paradise is a close play on a recipe from the 1939 compendium A Gentleman’s Companion by Charles H. Baker Jr.
