Maribel Denner and Nusrat Mirza were recently named director of sales and marketing and general manager of JW Marriott, Anaheim Resort.

1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?  

Maribel Denner: Excited for the opportunity to lead the sales & marketing efforts of the first JW Marriott in Orange County and partnering with Visit Anaheim in elevating modern luxury accommodation to a whole new level.

Nusrat Mirza: We are looking forward to open a world class luxury hotel, the JW Marriott Anaheim Resort. The JW Marriott brand enables you to focus on “The Whole You,” City of Anaheim to be recognized by Meeting Planners the home for luxury oriented, upscale events and meetings.

2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?  

MD: My great understanding of the sales process combined with my industry leadership experience allows me the opportunity to leverage all the resources needed as we open the newest centerpiece of the city.

NM: Possessing multi decades of experience in convention, resorts and urban hotels, which prepared us providing the high level experiences to all guest from different segments in Anaheim.

3. How did you get into the industry? 

MD: Started while in college in operations, transitioned to sales and never really looked back. I developed great passion for sales, had mentors who believed in me and grew deep appreciation connecting with people of different backgrounds.

NM: During my college days while majoring in engineering at the same time working in restaurants. My restaurant experience got me very interested in hospitality business. Post college education joined lodging industry and made a career.

4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?  

MD: Exceeding total hotel revenue goal, developing new talents and being a catalyst of change in elevating luxury hotel experience in Anaheim.

NM: Providing ROI to our owners and investors, strengthening Marriott International trust on brand promise with consumers. Helping to develop new hospitality leaders.

5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?  

MD: I grew up in a culture where being hospitable is a key factor in fostering strong relationships both personally and professionally.  This industry has created a career path that honed my passion for sales and desire to bring people together of different backgrounds in curating unique experiences both for business and leisure.

NM: Meeting with people from different cultures, countries, ethnic backgrounds and providing guests memorable experiences.

Timber Cove Resort is welcoming two key executives to the celebrated resort that sits on a dramatic bluff above a rugged stretch of the Sonoma coastline. Jason Reiplinger joins Timber Cove as managing director and Brendalee Vialpando as executive chef.


Emily Nichols has joined the Kimpton Alton Hotel in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf as general manager. She was previously the general manager of the Kimpton Buchanan in the city’s Japantown neighborhood, and prior to that served as the assistant general manager at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in Union Square. Her 15 years of experience in hospitality include roles in hotels across the country, including Mendocino, Palm Beach, New York City, and Rochester, Minnesota.


After serving as director of food and beverage at Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino more than a decade ago, David Lockard returns to the Lake Tahoe community as general manager of the 405-room Resort at Squaw Creek, a luxury Lake Tahoe resort located in California’s Olympic Valley and featuring 33,000 square feet of indoor and 14,780 square feet of outdoor event space.
