The multimillion-dollar renovation of The Citizen Hotel, Autograph Collection in downtown Sacramento has been completed, imbuing the historic property with a fresh, contemporary look and feel. All of the 196 guest rooms, along with the hotel’s nearly 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space, have been revitalized. The guestrooms now feature pops of jewel tones against a neutral palette of slate and grey, textiles inspired by both period etchings and men’s suiting, and custom-designed furniture that includes bespoke work desks. Of interest to meeting planners, a 650-square-foot Governor’s Suite and two 575-square-foot Presidential Suites include wet bars, spacious living areas, and private balconies offering sweeping capitol and city views. Each of the property’s enhanced meeting rooms, including the 2,280 square foot Plaza Park Ballroom, is outfitted with new carpet, wallcovering, paint, and lighting consistent with the design esthetic of the guestrooms.
Opened in 2008 as Sacramento’s first-ever boutique hotel in the center of downtown, The Citizen Hotel is housed in the 1926 Cal-West Insurance Building and located just two blocks away from the state capitol and near the area’s most prominent attractions including Golden 1 Center; DOCO, Sacramento’s outdoor mixed-used entertainment and shopping complex, and the city’s recently renovated Convention Center.
The Citizen Hotel’s onsite amenities includes the signature eatery, Grange Restaurant & Bar, which was awarded a MICHELIN plate in 2019 and 2020. The restaurant, helmed by Executive Chef Dane Blom, features a grand, two-story wine vault, and a farm-to-table menu highlighting ingredients sourced from the region’s robust farming community.
To celebrate the newly enhanced spaces, The Citizen Hotel partnered with Pulitzer Prize-winning Sacramento Bee editorial cartoonist Jack Ohman on a “Caricature Package,” offering guests a personalized caricature upon check-in.
