Smoke City Char Bar Opens in LA

The new Smoke City Char Bar that opened its doors in March in Downtown Los Angeles’ Arts District demonstrates a few things. One, there’s still room for restaurants and catering menus that feature meat, even in LA. That’s especially true when the meat—including beef tri-tip, brisket, pulled pork, baby back ribs, and sausage—are locally sourced and smoked in-house, as is this case here. Two, options to red meat and pork, including vegetarian/vegan alternatives, are always essential for group dining. At Smoke City those options include turkey breast, chicken, Pacific salmon, and jackfruit. Three, cocktails elevate every dining experience. Here, they’re inspired by bourbon-based drinks from the South, including mint juleps, along with boozy lemonades and iced tea. And, four, even a casual dining experience benefits from thoughtful design; in this case, industrial chic with gold ribbon lighting constructed from recycled resin, and a spacious patio with wood and iron upholstered bechnes and décor in bright orange and blue. In 1927, Hilton Hotels’ founder Conrad Hilton said, "Abilene, Texas, will be well prepared to handle large conventions and please the most fastidious visitor." Nearly 95 years later, Abilene has fulfilled this vision and is excited to welcome back the Hilton family of hotels in the heart of downtown Abilene with a recently announced DoubleTree by Hilton.
